Microsoft has sold far fewer Xbox One units than Sony has PS4 units

This is information – and admission – from Microsoft that was not expected. It appears in an official document sent by the Redmond group to the Brazilian competition authority as part of the process of buying Activision Blizzard for $ 68.7 billion.

Probably 50 to 55 million Xbox One

According to analyst Daniel Ahmad of Niko Partners (a video game industry specialist in Asia), Sony has shipped a total of about 117.2 million PS4 game consoles. That assumes Xbox One sales for Microsoft are less than 58.6 million units.

For the past several years, Microsoft has made a habit of not releasing figures for sales of its Xbox game console. So it’s a surprise to now have a clue about this, even if it’s for the Xbox One…whose sales have thus been relatively low.

From now on and in addition to its Xbox Series X and S game consoles, Microsoft is focusing on the Xbox Game Pass subscription and in particular the Ultimate package in order to take advantage of cloud gaming.

According to Microsoft, Sony is paying developers “blocking rights” to prevent their games from being added to Game Pass. Blocking rights or simple exclusivity deals?
