Riot Games unveils a series of changes to Syndra on Patch 12.19

While a new cycle has hit the PBE, patch 12.19, Riot Games has announced a series of changes to the Syndra champion, particularly on the Transcendence Passive side.

A mini-rework of Syndra

Tim “Truexy” Jiang, Associate Game Designer at Riot Games, has announced in the last few hours a series of changes on the Syndra champion, balancing that will appear on patch 12.19, an update currently on the PBE and expected to arrive on the live servers in two weeks, around Wednesday October 5. Released in 2012, Syndra is certainly one of the most popular champions in League of Legends, but her in-game presence and win rate have dropped considerably over the past several months, forcing Riot Games to revise her spell kit somewhat with a mini-rework with the goal of bringing her up to par with other midlane champions. 

As a reminder, Riot Games began its balancing for League of Legends Worlds 2022 with patch 12.16 and closed that chapter with patch 12.18, so the changes on Syndra should not be reflected for the World Championship, which will be played on update 12.18. Here’s what to expect with the changes on Syndra: 


Basic life points: 593 → 563


Syndra collects up to 120 shards by dealing damage to opposing champions and gaining levels. Shards of Wrath improve Syndra and her skills
-Syndra recovers 20-215 mana (depending on her level) each time she collects a shard from an enemy. She can gain shards in the following ways:
– by dealing damage to an opposing champion with 2 abilities within 4 seconds, Syndra gets (1/2/3 shards at levels 1, 11, and 18) Shards (8 second cooldown per target)
– gaining one level, Syndra gets 5 shards
– killing a Cannon minion, Syndra gets 1 shard
-at 120 Shards, Syndra gains 15% AP
-Spell icons also change with upgrade.

Black Sphere

Cooldown time: 4 → 7 seconds
Mana: 40/50/60/70/80 → 40/45/50/55/60
CancelledSphere duration: 6 → 6.5 seconds
Ap raiser: 65% → 70%
-40 bursts: Black Sphere now has 2 charges (1.25 second cooldown between each casting)

Force of Will

Sphere Recovery Detection Range 400 → 450
Now prevents non-Sphere units from dying for a short period of time when picked up.
-60 Shards : Force of Will Inflicts +15% (+1.5% every 100 of power) additional damage in the form of raw damage

Scatter of the Weak 

Magic damage: 85-265 (+60% AP) → 75-235 (+55% AP)
Dispersal cone angle: 34° → 56°
Cooldown time: 18-14 seconds → 15 seconds
Stun duration: 1.5 → 1.25 seconds
Reduced chance of E>Q combos failing at close range
-80 shards : weak scatter cone is increased (56° → 84°) and also slows enemies by 70% for 1.255 seconds (applied after the initial stun)

Power Stun 

Gives Black Sphere (A) 10/20/30 additional skill acceleration
Damage per sphere: 90/140/190 (+20% AP) → 90/130/170 (+17% AP)
-100 shards : Executes champions with health less than 15% of max hit points
