Skull & Bones: the story will be set back

Skull & Bones will finally be released in November after a development that could not be more chaotic. The piracy game heavily inspired by the success of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag’s naval skirmishes is thus rather expected…

But while the title took years to develop, it seems that the time wasn’t exactly put to good use in the storyline. In an interview with True Achievements, Ryan Barnard, the title’s development director, thus hinted that the title will not emphasize the narrative.

ASSASSINS CREED IV BLACK FLAG: THE LOST JOURNAL OF BLACKBEARD

Thus, the core of the game will not be focused on the story, but it will be up to the players to create their own story… Of course there will be important narrative elements and NGP’s with their own story, but the story itself will be more of an underlying story that will shape the world around the player.

In plain English, players will be dropped on the 7 seas and the main objective will be to complete various quests to progress and become the most feared pirate in the game… Players will thus multiply contracts to progress, equip themselves…

The statements are somewhat disturbing and suggest that players will be entitled to a vast open world, in which they will be left to their own devices with no real particular goal other than to progress as they see fit… A “freedom of action” that will undoubtedly camouflage a lack of depth that may quickly tire players…
