September 15, 2022 : Riot Games today announced a groundbreaking partnership with Lil Nas X, today’s leading rapper, singer and songwriter for a series of collaborations on the no less popular online game League of Legends. Lil Nas X is helping to create explosive musical moments this year – such as the 2022 Worlds anthem – a League of Legends champion skin and a spectacular live performance at the Worlds Finals in San Francisco this November, much to the delight of the 180 million monthly players and fans of the Runeterra universe (League of Legends PC, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra).

The first element of this collaboration with Lil Nas X will be the kick-off of the World Cup with the release of the highly anticipated annual musical anthem of the competition, performed by the artist himself. “STAR WALKIN” will debut on September 23, just before the official launch of the competition on September 29 in Mexico City. Following that, Lil Nas X and Riot Games will unveil a brand new, co-designed prestige skin for an all-new league champion, “K’Sante, the Pride of Nazumah.” Finally, Lil Nas X will take the stage for a live performance at the Worlds Opening Ceremony, presented by Mastercard, at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Saturday, November 5.

Designed in collaboration with the artist, the prestige skin for upcoming champion K’Sante will be released worldwide on November 3 and will be unlockable until November 14 by players. The in-game skin will not be available for purchase, but can be earned by playing League of Legends or Teamfight Tactics during the special World 2022 in-game event. Players will need to complete in-game missions to earn in-game currency (2,000 World 2022 tokens) to permanently unlock the skin. Following an initial partnership between Riot Games and Louis Vuitton in 2019, the co-designed prestige skin with Lil Nas X is a new collaboration for League of Legends, giving players the opportunity to celebrate the partnership with a one-of-a-kind skin.

The Worlds is the pinnacle of LoL Esports competition, in which the best teams from 11 different regions compete for the title of World Champion. Twenty-four (24) teams compete in the tournament to crown a winner. Year after year, the World Cup continues to shatter record after record, with the 2021 finals match boasting an average audience per minute (AMA) of more than 30 million viewers and more than 73 million concurrent viewers in peak.

I felt it was time for me to try something new. I’ve left my mark on pop culture in so many ways, and now it’s time to tackle the gaming world. I’m going to be the greatest League of Legends president of all time. I will also create the greatest World Cup anthem of all time and host the biggest, coolest, sexiest World Cup ever! “STAR WALKIN’ is the only song everyone is allowed to listen to from now on. Swag fr!”
Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X is the most electrifying name in music, so when he showed up at our headquarters and told us he wanted to become President of League of Legends and join us throughout the Worlds season, we of course said “yes.” We were all blown away by his vision, passion and undeniable style, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Worlds stage in San Francisco this November.
