Twitch: scandal surrounding a massive scam

Scams are circulating everywhere, and they are also invading social networks and streaming platforms, even when their instigators are “personalities.”

The abuses of some streamers

One scam in particular has recently turned Twitch upside down, and it’s the British streamer ItsSliker who is behind it. The streamer specializes in discussions around the game Counter Strike: Global Offensive and he enjoys a fairly large community, which he didn’t hesitate to scam.

The streamer allegedly fraudulently recovered as much as $300,000 from his streamer and viewer friends by promising to pay them back later.

The technique is simple and has like a little taste of déjà vu: in a video shared to his followers, the streamer explains that he is embarrassed and that his bank account has been blocked for a few days and thus calls his contacts to “help him out” the time to recover his account in order to reimburse them. A video shared to thousands of people who have not hesitated to help the streamer with a good heart…

Twitch just banned gambling but…

A few days ago, the streamer admits live on Twitch that it was a scam and that he is not in a position to pay back his friends or followers. He explains that he has money problems related to an addiction to sports betting and gambling from the famous Counter Strike boxes. In total$300,000 thus went into gambling and filled some of the streamer’s debts.

Luckily for the victims, two other influential streamers on Twitch announced that they would take over the reimbursement of the scam victims.

Twitch had just changed its terms and conditions to ban loot games via its platform. It remains to be seen whether paid and random lootboxes will be considered by extension as cash games by Twitch.
